It's the first day of the year. One of the major firsts on our list this year is moving to a new home. I've been racking my brains researching on design concepts on how to decorate our new abode. image from chinoiseriechic

A challenge that we have with the bathroom is that we need to incorporate the color orange in it. More of a feng shui thing. If you're to look at the bathrooms at Edsa Shangri-la, each cubicle has a piece of big, orange tile in it. Thing is, I don't want orange tiles in the bathroom. So, we opted to bring in the orange through the accessories instead. Well, you know me when it comes to the "s" word... I go in to see if there's anything interesting.
After searching high and low with our geomancer master of the universe, we've finally ended up finding a place (I'll post pictures when my sister returns my camera). Yesterday, A and I strolled in the vicinity to see if we can call the area home. Strolling aimlessly and enjoying it (I've always enjoyed A's company, of course), we found that the area's very convenient to be in. A hospital just 3 blocks away, bus station on the opposite side of the road, and cabs don't seem to run out. Even the e-tricycles pass by the area.
Food is definitely not a problem as the area ranges from convenience stores to fine dining. There's even a Korean convenience store nearby. Of course I wouldn't fail to mentioned a 24-hour McDonald's a block away =) I may not have my golf course view anymore (it's on the other side of the condo tower, which I can easily go to if there's an itch to view one), but we do have our share of the morning sun. Lots of parks in the area too. I remember passing by one of them before on a Sunday morning. There are groups there who do Tai Chi or dance exercises, plus the area itself if friendly to runners. Time for A, Snuz, and myself to get back into shape! Giddy, giddy, giddy =) I'm becoming quite nostalgic as A and I have started our flat-hunting. I remember the first time I saw the ad for our current flat here in Mandaluyong: The place is 41.1sqm that comes with a balcony overlooking the country club on the right side of the balcony. The unit came in almost fully furnished as it only lacked 3 things: TV, fridge, and a stove. However, we requested the unit owners (we're very lucky to have them) to give us an unfurnished one instead and just leave us the mattress. It was more of a taste preference on my end since the unit would be the beginning of our nest-building project. Over time, we also found out that no matter how strong the rains are, we can always keep our balcony door and windows open and not worry about water coming in. Not only that, power outage is not a problem because the unit comes equipped with an emergency power system which could still support lights (in a certain section of the unit), TV, and fan. It's a pretty good deal. The first thing that we did is frost the balcony doors and windows for privacy. I'm not a curtain person, it would be more costly to buy a number of curtains (since the balcony occupies one side of the unit) and send it to the cleaners for regular washing. We went for a combination of bamboo design and regular frost to give the unit a Zen feel. The unit owners allowed us to change the color of the walls. So, I didn't have to put up with a pink living room (which we've been using as a bedroom) and an orange-walled bathroom. The bedroom was untouched since we barely used it for its purpose. This is how it looks like now: This place has become a home for the 3 of us. Snuz had all the balcony to herself though she's most of the time indoors. This place has seen the beginnings of our married life. But as we continue our journey through life, so must we begin Phase 2 of our best-building.
Thank you unit 1207! Thank you golf and country club for the scenic view! Our major obstacle in looking for a place is finding one that would allow big dogs in the unit. Although some condos so allow pets as who can accommodate Snuz, the units are rather dim with not much source for natural light.. We do have our hearts set on 2 properties so far: Paseo Parkview in Salcedo Village and Galleria de Magallanes in Magallanes Village. Here's the one in Paseo Parkview: And here's the one in Magallanes: What A and I both liked about it is that it has no obstructions and both units are facing the park. Although the one in Magallanes is directly in front of a park, it's a rather long walk to the place if you're planning on commuting. Plus, the unit won't be available until sometime in July or August. We don't mind the wait, it's just that condo admin has no idea yet whether the current tenant will extend.
Paseo Parkview is more commuter-friendly and closer to the business district. I don't think we'd have a problem looking for a unit here. We just need to show the available units to our geomancer so he could check out the chi in the space. Other places we're considering are La Maison in Rada (available units in July), Greenbelt Mansions in Palanca, and LPL Manor in Leviste (no available units to date). Wish us luck! A's hotel room for his groom preps at Edsa Shangri-la had this really simple yet elegant looking chair paired with an ottoman. It's so cozy and comfy that I could loiter on it for a few hours. I knew I wanted a pair for both of us. And so, the chair-hunting begins. It's not easy to find a chair with the same body if you're on a budget. While scouting around, we bumped into this barrel chair. I prefer seat designs wherein I can put my feet up and do an Indian sit. I don't know why, I just do. We had the foam changed and reupholstered to make it more acceptable to our taste. We had a custom-made ottoman to look like the one in Shang. Paired up with the new and improved barrel chair, and here's what it looks: Eventually, we found one chair that has a similar body to the one in the inspiration photo. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a photo of it prior to reupholstering. But, this is how it looks like now: Paired with it's dedicated ottoman and compared to the inspiration chairs from Shangri-la, we get: our own nook chair inspiration chair from Edsa Shangri-la's Chi Premier Room Not bad at all for our nest-building project =) |
